Join the Stirrers and Spreaders at the home of Mark and Valerie Hope to make a batch of biodynamic tree paste, which is a mix of clay, sand, and cow manure that is “painted” onto the tree’s trunk. After making the paste, we will practice applying it to Hopes’ fruit trees, then take some home to put on our own trees. We will also experiment with adding Barrel Compost and Horsetail Tea to the mix.
If you have a tree or trees that are struggling with pests or diseases, have newly pruned limbs, or just need a boost, the biodynamic tree paste could be beneficial. The purpose of tree paste is to renew the tree’s trunk and give the tree a burst of energy. It does everything a dormant spray does and more. It can heal cuts and cankers, help the tree seal any damaged parts and deter fungal infections. It can deter fruit pests. It slows the onset of bud break which can be really helpful in our hot/cold Willamette Valley spring. Ideally we want buds to delay breaking and be protected till we have consistently warm days and the delicate young parts can survive easily. Tree paste can help do that. | | Library News - the Latest! Help Wanted With Inventory |  | First, the Gratitude Corner - We so appreciate these people who responded to specific requests for help. Thank them when you see them. Deborah Ham, utilizing a variety of talents, has organized a new process for checking out books, which includes new, more functional cards which are now associated with the borrowers; a bookmark that goes out with the book; signage that gives clear instructions, and a station for borrowing and returning books. (Reminder: books can also be returned at any time, 24/7 to the box on the porch at 2606 SE 58th Ave, just south of Division St.) Sandra Burch, all on her own initiative, went with Wes, who was looking for a book, to clear out and organize areas that needed it. Then she came back and worked with Valerie for the better part of a day organizing, shelving books, and getting things ready for inventory. She (after calling Wes for help) hauled large amounts of ‘stuff’ to garbage, recycling, and Goodwill. Sandra is an amazing organizer - consider her if you need help. Erik Sebold, will be entering newly donated books into the catalog, so that after inventory and shelving the newly acquired books, the catalog will be up to date.

We would like to complete it in the next couple of weeks. | |  | Christmas Conference/Foundation Stone 2024 Membership in the Foundation Stone Group is Growing | You may be aware, if you have been following this newsletter, that the Foundation Stone group, which was founded in spring of 2020, offered a presentation in each of three sessions over the Holy Nights. The first related to study of spiritual science as the first step of initiation, and described the spiritual human being Anthroposophia, the importance of developing a close relationship with her, bringing her into our hearts, and consulting her throughout our day. The second explored what Sergei Prokofieff calls Rudolf Steiner’s deed at the Christmas Conference, the creation of the Spiritiual Dodecahedron of Love. The third presentation spoke to the importance of community for forming a sheath, a vessel, a chalice to receive all that is flowing to us from the spiritual world.
A highlight of the gatherings was experiencing together the Foundation Stone’s practice in the second panel: Practice spirit sensing, awareness. As a group we practiced awareness of the being Anthroposophia, opening our hearts to her; and awareness of the etheric stream that the Christ in our hearts sends to our heads.
Great gratitude to Miriam Ward, who spearheaded and organized the events, and in addition provided a beautiful, festive table of refreshments to sustain participants. We would also like to express our appreciation for Jannebeth Röel, whose expert guidance led the group through the many intricate steps required to build a dodecahedron, a process which can enhance our relationship to it. We are also grateful to Jannebeth for donating to the library a beautiful double dodecahedron model - like the one that is in the foundation stone of the Goetheanum building.
The follow up to the Holy Nights gathering was largely conversation among participants, reflections on what we were individually living with following those Holy Nights activities. One thing that resulted from our time together, was that several people decided to join the Foundation Stone Group, so we would like to offer here to those who were not present an invitation to join in. Currently the group meets on Thursday evenings, with a study on the third Thursday of each month.

The October, 2024 National Society Conference Will Be Held in Portland! | If you’ve aspired to attend a national conference, aspired to meet anthroposophists from near and far, the Portland location certainly facilitates your being able to fulfill that wish! Dates will be the weekend of October 12 (possibly including time on that Friday and Monday). A team from the National Society is working hand in glove with Portlanders and Western Regional Council members to form a conference worthy of inspiring the work that anthroposophists are being called to.
