SUMMARY:Branch Easter Observance
DESCRIPTION:Every spring we can sense the gift of nature’s creative process unfolding in response to the forces of light and warmth. Our inner being may then uncover a source of meaning and responsibility around the Easter event\, as we recognize a power of renewal guiding us to foster that in life which can become. \nMembers of the Portland Branch are working together to bring a social and artistic offering for our Easter observance. which will feature a poem and exhibit of original paintings from artist Anca Hariton’s book “Metamorphora”. The mystery of creation will be brought to light through the spoken words of the poem. Eurythmy will also be part of the program.

SUMMARY:Matinee – Videos for 2023
DESCRIPTION:2 pm: The Windows of the First Goetheanum\, From Design to Execution\, with Ronald Templeton. As we strive to connect with the spiritual content that was embodied in the art of the First Goetheanum\, Ronald’s presentation is helpful as he describes the controversy and evolution of the images in the wonderful colored windows. This illuminates what Dr. Steiner meant when he said that none of it was symbolic. Ronald shows the controversial artwork which illustrates the difference. \n3 – 3:15 pm: Break \n3:15 – 4:45 pm: The Envy of the Gods\, the Envy of Man with Adriana Koulias. In this presentation Adriana describes the turning points in human development which occurred with the burning of the temple at Ephasus\, and the burning of the First Goetheanum. Highlighting the spiritual opportunities at hundred year anniversaries\, she assures us that we agreed to be here at this time\, and stresses the importance of where we put our attention over this next year\, which leads from the Goetheanum Fire at Christmas 1922 to the Christmas Conference and offering of the Foundation Stone in 1923.

SUMMARY:Holy Nights Gatherings 2022-23
DESCRIPTION:Observing the Hundredth Anniversary of the Goetheanum Fire which took place during the Holy Nights. What was the purpose of this first Goetheanum\, and how might it inspire us now? \nAstrosophist Jonathan Hilton characterizes this Advent time\, which has largely become so outwardly busy and materialistic\, as a time suited for inwardly meeting and striving to transform the lower self in preparation for Christmas: “ We often think of Advent as a time of blessing and lights\, but in reality it is a time of meeting the darkness in ourselves. So\, during this season we are called annually\, in the cycle of the year\, to encounter the scorpion in us\, the untransformed lower astral nature\, the “death” perspective of our own underworld. We are also called to take up the task of transformation in order to ever and again prepare ourselves for the birth of the spirit child\, the Sun child within. This is the challenge of the Sun passing through Scorpion every Advent season.” \nAnd so with the help of our ‘mighty companions’ we make our way to Christmas when\, somewhat lighter and brighter\, we can experience this ‘birth of the Sun child within’. This is the beginning of the Twelve Holy Nights which culminate on January 6 with Epiphany\, or Three Kings Day. What will be our task at this juncture in the cycle of the year? \nTogether\, on three separate afternoons\, we will take up the mystery of the First Goetheanum\, its purpose\, the fire and the conditions which led to it\, and the example that Rudolf Steiner set for us in how he responded afterward. All can have some indications for our time. \nWe will begin and end with the Halleluiah in eurythmy\, as an experience of the First Goetheanum.

SUMMARY:Actor Glen Williamson in Portland for the Week!
DESCRIPTION:November 11-16 Six Days of Performances and Conversation \nFriday\, 11th\, 7pm: Beat the Devil! (Goethe’s Faust\, the WHOLE Story) Portland Waldorf School High School Auditorium\, 2300 SE Harrison\, Milwaukie. \nSaturday\, 12th\, 7 pm: The Incarnation of the Logos\, Portland Waldorf School High School Auditorium – An epic tale of Christ’s coming to earth. The story of Jesus’ birth\, childhood and youth\, harmonizing the conflicting accounts of Matthew and Luke. This saga weaves the thread of many traditions into an intimate\, but also cosmic\, drama. \nSunday\, 13\, 1:30 pm Tale of the Antichrist by Vladimir Solovyov\, Bothmer Hall\, 5915 SE Division St. Portland – A reading of Solovyov’s prophetic story\, abridged by Glen\, about 60 minutes . \nMonday 14\, 7 pm\, Fire in the Temple\, a talk and reading of selected scenes\, Branch Library\, 5415 SE Powell Blvd\, 2nd floor\, entrance of parking lot in back of church – Glen will give an informal talk about his newest play\, Fire in the Temple – The True Story of the Death of Rudolf Steiner. Synopsis of the play: Spiritual teacher and clairvoyant Rudolf Steiner works to awaken people to the spirit. His enemies oppose him and his pupils don’t understand their task. But ancient memories and faithful friendships persist.Glen will describe how he researched and developed the play from historical records of events and conversations which followed the burning of the first Goetheanum in Dornach\, Switzerland on New Year’s eve\, 1922. He will share some of the important themes\, sources and the esoteric and social significance. \nTuesday 15\, 7 pm\, Future Dawning\, Branch Library. – An exploration of Glen’s mystery play\, which places the individuals from Rudolf Steiner’s mystery plays into a subsequent incarnation in the 21st century. “…The overarching context of Glen’s challenging drama addresses questions such as the pending incarnation of Ahriman\, the dynamics of the renewal of the Mysteries in our time\, the relationship between spiritual science and a hypothetical modern Christian church\, and possible dangers inherent in new etheric (or sub-etheric?) modalities of healing. The drama also highlights many highly contemporary themes\, addressing them from a spiritual aspect\, such as the connection between spirituality and sexuality and the dilemmas many of us find ourselves facing when confronting issues relating to socio-political administration in an increasingly technocratic world.” – Dr. James Dyson \nWed 16\, 7 pm\, Bothmer Hall – community visit recap\, open follow-up conversation. \nGreat gratitude to the Takacs Clinic for sponsoring these events. Donations will go toward rent for the Branch library/community space. Suggested donation $20 each\, don’t let finances be a barrier to attending any or all. \n

We will enter quietly to harp music by music thanatologist Raya Partenheimer; and we will begin and end with selections by Portland Eurythmy. \nYou may bring pictures or other items associated with those you know who have crossed the Threshold\, and light candles that will be provided.

SUMMARY:Signs of the Times with Astrid Schmitt-Stegmann
DESCRIPTION:Signs of the Times\nwith\nAstrid Schmitt-Stegmann\nOctober 21-24 \nBranch Library\, 5415 SE Powell Blvd \n\n$20/Session or $60 all Four\nRegister Here\nFriday (10-21)\, 7 pm: Threshold Consciousness Astrid will begin with looking back at the Corona time experiences and how we can work with them to (hopefully) gain self understanding\, and above all to wake up (which is what Steiner implores us to do again and again). This will lead to the main point: the awakening of natural forces that have lead\, and will lead\, to a crossing of the Threshold unconsciously during this Michael rulership. What are the great possibilities and the challenges of the crossing? These new capacities are to awaken in us because of the Reappearance of Christ in the Etheric realm.\nSaturday (10-22) 9:30 am-12 pm: The Mystery of Evil\, and the Attack on the “I”. Steiner speaks about Michael tossing down the Ahrimanic spirits in the 19th century\, to clear the etheric realm. The Ahrimanic Spirits are now here on earth with us. What is their effect on us? How do we see that presently? This experience with the destructive forces can lead us into the abyss. What is the purpose of these forces? How can a Micha-el festival take its place in the year with Christmas\, Easter\, and St. Johns?\n1:30-3pm: Anthroposophical Work in Germany and in Portland – a presentation and conversation exploring present and future directions.\nSunday (10-23) 10 am-12 pm: Awakening to the Other –Our consciousness has to change. It is now all about working together and working more consciously with the Spiritual world. The difference between the ritual in the Christian Community and the Reverse Ritual. We have to realize that through our birth and upbringing we are human beings with prejudices in our thinking. We have to develop inner tolerance and strong social interest in order to overcome this gradually in life. That is today the path to the Christ Being.
